Why I don’t Fuck Cancer..

Having had numerous life-threatning Cancer diagnoses one would think that I’d be waving the “Fuck Cancer” slogan with big enthusiasm. On the contrary I have never used this popular expression and find it rather disturbing. The word Fuck, unless used in the bedroom, is a word filled with negative energy and hate. As Cancer is part of the body we are subconciously directing this bad energy to our own bodies and, similarly, like we do with other body insecurities we, then, create a hate relationship with the selected part.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”- Martin Luther King

The “Fuck Cancer” slogan also makes it easy for a patient to fall in to the victim role as they focus their energy on blaming Cancer and in that way not taking responsibility for their health. This can sound harsh and many may think that they are not responsible for their Cancer but its through taking responsibility of our health that true healing takes place. If we are constantly looking for something to blame we will remain victims and a victim has lower chances of recovering. Another reason I find it hard to utter these words is the fact that in most cases Cancer is not to blame. Cancer rates have never been as high and they keep rising. Numerous studies have shown how our modern lifestyle has created many of these cases through poor diet, pollution, stress, smoking etc… Instead of focusing the attention on the symptom (cancer) we should be directing the focus on the cause so we can make the changes necessary to heal.
The word Cancer is already fully loaded with negative energy and it would benefit many patients if we could make a shift by changing how we approach this disease. Instead of feeding pity, hopelessness, misery and melancholy we should be giving hope. There are many psychologists that have been able to demonstrate that positive and negative expectation have opposite effects on blood levels of cortisol and prolactin, two hormones important in activating the immune system.
Shlomo Breznittz a psychologist at Hebrew University in Jerusalem is one of them.

“The brain does not want the body to expend its resources unless we have a reasonable chance of success. Our physical strength is not accessible to us if the brain does not believe in the outcome, because the worst possible thing for humans to do is to expend all of our resources and fail. If we do not believe we can make it, we will not get the resources we need to make it. The moment we believe, the gates are opened, and a flood of energy is unleashed. Both hope and despair are self-fulfilling prophecies.”- Shlomo Breznittz

“Refusal to hope is nothing more than a decision to die”- Bernie S. Siegel

It´s said that we only use about 10% of our minds capacity. Imagine what we can do if we start using the remaining percentage. We have already seen through the placebo effect what the mind is capable of.
Science teaches that we must see in order to believe, but we must also believe in order to see.

So instead of  “Fucking cancer”, lets Love the shit out of it by becoming exceptional patients that believe in our ability to heal, take control of our health and live our lives with love, happiness and positive vibes!
